Kiva lets you loan as little as $25 to a qualified low income entrepreneur in the developing world.

Not sure what controls are available but it sounds like an interesting way to bring folks in the third world out of poverty.

Actually all of Kiva's entrepreneurs are vetted by a microfinance institution which we partner with to ensure integrity, and of course our partner microfinance institutions are vetted by us. There are so many great microfinance institutions out there, and so many entrepreneurs who just need that first step, and it's amazing how powerful we can be when we connect the dots and work together.
